A Step Back in Time
The Underground Railroad in Southeast Indiana
9 am Decatur County CourthouseLearn about the court case that set a precedent in Indiana (State of Indiana vs. Luther Donnell). Luther Donnell was a UGRR conductor through Decatur County. He was sued by a Kentucky slave-owner for loss of property when he helped Caroline and her four children to freedom.
9:30 am Decatur County Historical Society Museum-Tour the newly expanded museum to view other artifacts from the era. See a portrait of Mr. Donnell and his wife and learn more about their story.
10:30 am Venture over to the Last Supper Museum. Youll see a variety of art that depicts the Last Supper.
12:30 pm Venture to your choice of restaurants for lunch. Great options include High Point Orchard and Farm Market, the Gilded Lily or Stories.
2:00 pm Learn about round barns by visiting the restored Strauther Pleak Round Barn and its role in agriculture past, present and future.
3:30 pm Head Home!
Expand to an overnight trip with a room at an area hotel and dinner at Buffalo Wings and Rings or El Reparo. Day 2 venture down to Historic Metamora and experience an 1830s canal town.
Prices begin at $35 per person for a day trip. Overnight starts at $85 per person plus tax.
