An agri-tourism tour
Day 1
Morning As you begin your tour, you will be
Provided a step-on guide in Jackson
County if you so desire.
The day will begin with a tour of Swifty Farms, the largest thoroughbred horse farm in Indiana. Tractor pulled trams will shuttle you between the Mare, Stallion, and Yearling barns where you will learn how the staff and the resident
veterinarian cares for the 80-100 thoroughbred horses.
Lunch
From Swifty Farms you will travel to the nearby Stream Cliff Herb Farm in Jennings County for a
tour of the historic 1821 homesteads gardens, shops, and winery. The nationally recognized farm features a large collection of unusual annuals, perennials, and vines. Browse the Country Store, Cabin, and Summer Kitchen shops for unique garden accessories. Have lunch in the Twigs and Sprigs Tea Room or the adjoining Garden Room.
Late Afternoon
Board the bus for a return trip to Jackson County.
But, before stopping to check-in at one of the many local hotels, we will make a brief stop to re-energize at the Russell Stover Candies Retail Store. Check-in and freshen up.
Evening
Leave the hotel for a quiet home cooked meal in a relaxing wooded setting at Batars tearoom or enjoy a hearty steak dinner at Chateau de Pique Winery. Set back and enjoy the evenings entertainment. Return to hotel for the evening.
Day 2
Morning
Continental Breakfast at the hotel and check-out.
A step-on guide will greet you at your hotel and narrate as you travel Jackson Countys Round Barns and Covered
Bridges Tour. On this tour you will see two circa 1870 covered bridges. The Medora Covered Bridge at 434 long is the longest three-span covered bridge in the United States and is currently undergoing restoration. You will also visit two of the counties
three round barns and will stop to tour one of these unique structures. Our last stop will be Kammans Farm Market, known for their watermelons and cantaloupes where you can take home a taste of Jackson County!
Lunch
While traveling to our lunch destination you will drive
by two circa 1880s Ripley County covered bridges. Have a picture taken of you and friends by the once well traveled bridges. We then venture onto the Versailles State Park where you will enjoy a catered picnic. Upon leaving the park your next visit will be Ertel Cellars Winery. There you will tour the winery and have the opportunity to partake in a wine tasting.
Late Afternoon
Board the bus to travel to Decatur County to
check-in for the night. Take a few moments to
relax and prepare for an exciting evening.
Evening
Our next stop is dinner and evening entertainment at
Strauthers Pleak Round Barn. Learn about the
barns history, how it was restored, and the role the land around it plays in the future of our food supply! Visitors will be treated to a catered dinner followed by evening fiddlers. End the evening with late night racing at Indiana Downs!
Day 3
Morning
Continental Breakfast at the Hotel and
check-out.
Step on board as we travel to the High Point Apple Orchard
and Greenhouse. While there youll enjoy the seasonal
produce, great flowering plants, gift shop, and so much more.
Our next stop is Stapps Circle S Ranch. The 32-acre
petting farm will introduce you to many of the animals that
you grew up with on the farm and a few more exotic ones too!
Clyde the camel is one of the best known in the menagerie! See their website at www.stappscirclesranch.com.
Lunch
While at the Circle S Ranch enjoy the specially
prepared box lunch.
Leave for home.
