GREENSBURG - Costumes, candy and community fun will soon take over the park for a Halloween celebration.
Trick or Treat in the Park is happening from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Decatur County Park, 1650 W. Park Road. The free family event, hosted by Decatur County Parks and Recreation, Visit Greensburg and the Daily News, promises a festive afternoon where kids can follow a candy trail and visit local businesses decked out in Halloween spirit.
”I am extremely excited to host our first-ever Trick or Treat in the Park event,” Parks & Rec Executive Director Chris Noblitt said.
Noblitt introduced this idea in Decatur County to help unite the community. “Having the ability to get our community and local businesses together is something that I think can be extremely beneficial to everyone,” he said.
Kids are encouraged to wear their costumes for the Daily News costume contest, which starts at 3:45 p.m. Daily News Publisher Natalie Acra is thrilled to bring a Halloween costume contest back to Decatur County.
“As a child growing up in Greensburg, I remember the Kiwanis costume contest was such a big deal to many kids,” she said. She then recalled Sammy Terry’s local appearance in 1984, when he signed autographs with the help of friends at WTRE. Acra, Shelley Hadler and some surprise guests will determine the costume contest winners. “This year's contest is hopefully the beginning of an annual event,” Acra said.
In addition, area residents can get excited about the Power of the Past hayride trolley, which will transport attendees from the nearby parking lot. Red Bird Records will be DJing the event with Halloween tunes.
